My work focuses on early modern English literature, premodern critical race studies, queer and sexuality studies, and the history of slavery. My first book, Fictions of Consent: Slavery, Servitude, and Free Service in Early Modern England, explored the ideologies of race and bondage in early modern England; my second project, currently in progress, explores the nexus of race and reproduction, gender and childhood, and empire and slavery in the early modern Atlantic world. I have also recently co-edited a special issue of New Literary History on 'Race and Periodization'; other interests include the history of labour; representations and genealogies of the family; and theoretical and methodological conversations around intersectionality.
