Timo McGregor is a historian of legal and political thought in early modern Europe and the Atlantic world. His research focuses on conceptions of political community beyond and in between states and empires, with a particular focus on chartered companies and corporate colonizing in the Dutch and English empires. McGregor is currently a postdoctoral fellow at the Yale MacMillan Center, where he is working on a book project exploring forms of inter-imperial collaboration and polity formation in seventeenth-century Anglo-Dutch settlements in the Guianas, West Africa, and Northeastern America.
