 Emanuele Conte is Professor of Legal History at the University of Roma Tre and Directeur d’Etudes at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales in Paris. He has been a visiting professor at the University of Pennsylvania (2014 : Bok Visiting Professor), University of Wollongong (Australia) (2015); Australian National University Canberra (2015); École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) - Chaire Yan Thomas, Paris, France (2010); EHESS, Paris, France (2008; 2004; 1998); École des Chartes, Paris (2011); École Normale Supérieure Lettres et Sciences Humaines, Lyon, France (2009; 2006); Univ. de Paris X, Nanterre, Fac. de Droit, France (2005); Univ. de Toulouse I, Fac. de Droit, France (2000); Univ. de Paris II Panthéon, Fac. de Droit, France (2000). He has been visiting research fellow at the Max-Planck Institute in Frankfurt am Main (1986-1988), University of California at Berkeley (1990; 1999), Wolfson College, Oxford (2018), Columbia University, New York (2019). He is now senior researcher in the ERC project ["Civil Law, Common Law, Customary Law"](https://clicme.wp.st-andrews.ac.uk), based at the University of St Andrews (UK). Professor Conte has published 7 books and several dozens of articles in Italian, French, English, German and Spanish, and is the editor of a volume of the series *Cultural History of Law* (Bloomsbury, 2019).
