Ângela Barreto Xavier is a Researcher at the Institute of Social Sciences of the University of Lisbon (ICS-ULisboa). Her research interests include the history of political ideas and the cultural and political history of early modern empires. She is mainly interested in political, social and cultural exclusion problems intersecting with religion, science and power. Her more recent book is Religion and Empire in Portuguese India: Resistance, Negotiation and the Making of Goa (New York/Delhi: SUNY-Permanent Black, 2022).
